O2e Charity Cycle Ride

It’s that time of year again when 100+ men and women squeeze into their Lycra and head to Europe on their bikes with skinny wheels in the name of charity.

O2e ride 2

Ollie and the O2e faithful jumped on the bikes at Calais last week and cycled just shy of 300 miles in 3 days to Caen via many a D-Day memorial site including Pegasus Bridge, Merville Battery and the famous landing beaches. All of which proved extremely emotive, poignant and a reminder of the sheer heroism from Allied Forces on June 6th, 1944 – possibly the most significant day in European history in the last 500 years.

O2e  (Ordinary2Extraordinary) raises money for children who face a struggle in life be it through disability or illness. The O2e ride, better known as ‘Big Kev’s Ride’ after the main man who embarked on the first annual ride 9 years ago with 8 other ‘cyclists’, has become a flagship event for the charity and will have raised tens of thousands of pounds once all the sponsorship monies are in.

O2e ride 5

The ethos is simple; ordinary people doing extraordinary things and there were endless examples of this during Big Kev’s Ride with lots of people cycling over 100 miles for the first time in a day.

Of course, celebrations were plentiful in true O2e tradition and the trip, once again, proved to be the perfect combination of fundraising, pushing physical boundaries, making new friends and seeing the world.
