Well that didn’t go to plan! Punchy enthusiasm and confidence ahead of my Cat 3 Road Racing season was stunted today as I got spat out the back on the final lap of the race at Abingdon (Dalton Barracks).

I knew from the off that I may not have the legs as I was finding harder than I expected and the pace was higher, in parts, than was comfortable for my level at this moment in time.

The wind hitting you is to be expected at the exposed airfield and there’s no complaint there from me. Into the block headwind on the far side of the course was where I struggled most and where I eventually got thrown out the back of the chasing pack.

I missed the early move to get in the break and bridged twice which in hindsight, did me in! It’s always the way; you see the breakaway gaining time on the bunch and with no one reacting, you take it upon yourself. Tricky one.

So no results there but it’s a race I’m always please to come away from unscathed, especially after team mate, Nick’s, injuries he suffered there.

Time to concentrate on sustained efforts and having to hit high watts on tired legs. It’s what I lacked today.

Great to see the Mossa boys today, supporting on the side lines and in kit, pinning on a number on.

Tough start to the season but at least I know where I’m at/where I’m not!
