Cookie policy
Last updated
Most websites tell you they use cookies and leave you to work out which. This one lists them.
Before you choose
When you first arrive, this site sets no cookies at all and loads no third-party scripts. The banner appears, and nothing else happens until you answer it.
If you accept
One cookie is set, and it is this site's own. No analytics is currently installed, so accepting does not load anything from Google or anyone else. If that changes, this page and the banner will say so before it does.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
or_consent | This site | Remembers your answer so you are not asked again. | 6 months |
If you decline
One cookie is still set, or_consent, recording that you said no. It is the only way to stop the banner asking again on every page. It contains the worddenied and nothing else: no identifier, no profile, nothing shared with anyone.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link in the footer at any time. You can also clear cookies in your browser, which resets the choice entirely.
Films from YouTube
Some journal posts include films hosted on YouTube. They are shown as a still with a play button, and nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. At that point the film plays through YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that player. If you would rather not, the same film is a link you can open on YouTube itself, or simply leave unplayed.
What this site does not do
- No advertising or retargeting pixels.
- No social media tracking scripts. The Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook links in the footer are ordinary links; nothing loads from those sites until you click.
- No session recording, heatmaps or scroll tracking.
- No fingerprinting, and no attempt to identify you across other websites.
Fonts are served from this site rather than from Google Fonts, so no request goes to a third party when a page loads.
